Weekly Photo Challenge: Up

For the weekly photo challenge: up, a shot from the recent archive, taken in June.

This is the wooden dam of Schokland. This is a replica of the original dam that used to protect a former island from the tides of the Zuiderzee (Southern sea) in the Netherlands. The replica has been built in the same spot – so it’s strange to think we were standing where the sea used to reach up high!

The island is now part of the Noordoost polder, and a Unesco heritage site. If you want to read more about the island, visit the Unesco site.

Another option for ‘Up’ : the staircase underneath the glass pyramide of the Louvre, Paris

  3. Some wonderful history around in this country – thanks for all the nice comments!

@Robin: the stairs in the Louvre, yes so true – all angles should be considered. We were amazed at how photogenic the building is and the different styles of architecture blending into each other. We’ve promised ourselves to go back! 🙂
