This is the wooden dam of Schokland. This is a replica of the original dam that used to protect a former island from the tides of the Zuiderzee (Southern sea) in the Netherlands. The replica has been built in the same spot – so it’s strange to think we were standing where the sea used to reach up high!
The island is now part of the Noordoost polder, and a Unesco heritage site. If you want to read more about the island, visit the Unesco site.
